With how busy everyone is, most can't be on when auctions end.
Silent Auctions would give everyone a chance

Sure, and we usually have 5-10 people on for the draft every season. We don't accomodate everyone and their busy schedule. When you miss the draft, you leave a list. When you can't make the auction time, leave your best bid.

When you can't make the auction time, leave your best bid. It's still really hard to leave your best bid and win. If you bid on an 82 you better offer an 82 or an 81+76ish then, otherwise you stand no chance.

Lol the only players in auctions that actually get the 81 (whatever overall) + the "insurance" player are the legends and top 6 forwards. Lots of other guys are left with GM's offering 80's for 81's and they win. So it's not like you don't stand a chance in auctions. And TBH, it's fair because if you really want a legend you'll be there at 7:55 ready to make a bid. They're not supposed to be that easy to obtain anyways - I mean, we're talking about legends here.

I find it frustrating how everyone keeps saying "just be here at 7:55 if you want a guy". Well, if we switched the time to 4AM, or 10am, would everyone feel the same? "You want a guy, wake your ass up in the middle of the night, or take the morning off work/school." Like, come on.
But really, what is the harm in trying ONE bloody guy. It would be something fresh and exciting to try. I already said since I don't bid in these auctions I would be willing to recieve the bids. There is nothing holding this back now except those 3-4 people who DO have the luxery of being able to be on here every night at 7:59 to steal guys at the last second. And even then, NOTHING stops those same guys from winning auctions of we do it blind.
Blind is BY FAR the fairest way to do auctions. It was a good suggestion by a long-term, respected GM, and I think we should respect him enough to give the blind-auction thing a try.

I agree 100% with Canes. There is no way that I will be able to make it on at 759 pm to put in a last minute bid for a long while. Work has just become too busy and I cant get away for it. So, why should I be put in a spot where I can never win auctions on guys that will improve my team because for circumstances beyond my control, I cannot make it on.
If you make the closing time for 1pm eastern, bam, I can get on and bid because thats usually when I can get away from work for a few minutes.
I highly doubt that will happen so why not just try something new. Its not going to hurt any rosters or the auction pool and it seems the majority wants this so lets try it for a bit and if it fails, go back to the origional setup.

Is there a reason that the only two people that seem to matter on this site (Pens and Phx) are ignoring this? Since nothing would be slowed or affected, it seems odd to not at least try it. Kinda frustrating when admins just flat out ignore something everyone seems to want.

very busy right now and this won't happen until next season if it does happen. We would need details as to how this would work. Still need an end date and things will have to work as smoothly as they do now. If not there is no chance.

Nothing changes. You post them as you do now. The ONLY difference is the bids get sent to me instead of posted publicly. Then after the auction closes, I post who had the highest bid. Nothing on anyone's end anywhere changes. Thats why I keep saying it can come into play now. It affects nothing for anyone except me.

It's odd that people have no time, yet this would actually be less time consuming for the simmer/Pens than doing it the way it is. I give it a thumbs up to the idea because:
A. It's more fair. B. People would at least like to try it. C. It's basically done independent of Pens and Phoenix thus freeing up their time even more, and allowing the league to pitch in and somewhat run itself.
Lots of positives to it.

It's not more fair because it needs to involve a 3rd party who's not affiliated to this league in any way. You can't let a GM or even the admins do it because there will be a potential of deception and cheating.

What cheating?
If the guy says he wins at a 78, and soneone bid a 79, then the 79 will still win and someone else would do it.
I think an account where they can be sent and then someone checks it when auctions end is the best route.
No one should be logging into it until 8:00 whatever the day the auctions end, that way, the GM who does it can still participate

Not difficult to set up a cult or set up deals with someone.
Let's say 2 people bid on a guy. One's an 80 and the other was a 79. The person discards or deletes the PM regarding the 80 and allows the GM with the 79 to win. Difficult to argue this. Vice versa, someone can say they bid a higher bid just to stir up shit when they didn't.
Do I think it'll happen? I would hope not but it's not like it's all roses and rainbows on here. We've had shit-storms happen before and it can happen again.
