Personally I have concerns. I think the winning bids would be lower as guys would be bidding less since they have no idea what they're up against, as a result that would weaken the auction crop and make them almost obsolete aside from the 5 legends every year.
Maybe keep the current format but increase them by a day or two each so everyone has more notice and have more time to make their max bid? In all honesty here last minute bidding wars are a part of auctions in any walk of life and I personally wouldn't like to see that excitement factor go away.

You could do 1 or 2 of the auctions in silent auction mode, to change things up and give GMs that aren't able to be around at the last minute an improved chance at getting players.

I would have to disagree with people bidding lower because they dont know what they are up against. I believe it would be the opposite and people would throw out their highest bid right away. It will probably still result in people upgrading by one on their player they bid and I dont forsee the auction crop getting any weaker.
As of the setup right now (or even adding a day or two) I have been sooooooo busy at work this year and I can never make it on in the evenings anymore (I know I am not alone on this one.) I am stuck in the office late and on weekends right now so I just bid the highest I would be willing to go right off the bat. I have yet to win an auction because someone has outbid me at the deadline by throwing in a 74 overall player to break the tie. I think I would stand a better chance in blind auctions (along with several other GM's) because there would be less of these low rated players tossed in in the final minutes to win a bid.
In the end it is my own doing for not being on here at the end of the auction but at this point in time it is out of my control and its too bad because I have lost a few bids like this this year.

The auction crop would be weakened. Everyone here is pretty much already saying they have to make their max bid sooner then they'd like because of work constraints, what would sending in your max bid via private message do that would be any different? If someone's max bid is higher than yours you still lose.
I think the only real solution here as I said would be extending the auctions by a day or so so people have more bidding time.

I disagree wholeheartedly here. I don't do auctions at all on this site because I KNOW for an absolute FACT I have to bid an 84 to get an 85. And I am new. People know what they have to bid on this site. Especially if they have been here for 6 years.
Extending the auctions solves nothing, because the problem is that it's the same people all the time who will do last-minute bidding. It makes any bidding prior a waste of everyone's time, since pretty much every auction here is decided in the last minute.
The other big problem I have is when I look at the auction threads, I don't know who is injured. So when I see a bid of an (injured) 88 for an 88, I don't know he is injured (nor will I go check every bidded player in every auction to make sure) so I assume it's valid and I don't bid, knowing I will never top the 88. But then later I see the 88 bid was injured (void) and that an 86 won, and I COULD have won with my 87. But if it was all blind, I would have submitted my 87 for a chance to win.
I think before shooting down the cool idea with theoreticals, we should try it first. Maybe start with one BIG free agent in the next auction, and then 3-4 on the one after that. See how it works out. Because no one knows (good or bad) how this cool new idea would work without trying it. I know if that was how the system worked, I would participate in auctions, whereas now I do not because I know I will be outbid at the last second, AND i always see what I am up against.
The blind system is by far the most fair way to do an auction.

Extending it by a day wouldn't change anything at all. The same last second bids would still happen. What about changing the end of auction times to like 3:00 am or something?

Another idea would be you are only allowed a certain number of bids per player. Or maybe you are only allowed to bid on one player in the final 10 minutes of an auction or something like that.

In regards to solving the injury issues (it really isn't that hard to check the injuries thread, but I digress...) I can start announcing which bids are invalid (since I always check before the end of each auction set) with an hour or so left to go so everybody is made aware.

Not everyone is on at close, though, so letting people know invilid bids in the last hour is 100% useless.
That's why we should try King's suggestion out and see how it plays. Blind bidding is by far the fairest way to go. It takes timing out of the equation 100%. For some people, it's very easy to be here at 8pm. For others, it's almost impossible. Taking timing out makes the playing field 100% even.

Just keep it the same. I already hate waiting a couple days to win a player, extending it a couple days would make the wait even longer.

That's why I say keep it the same length, but try the blind bidding system. It's not any slower, but it's certainly more fair.

I don't see how this idea can hurt anyone (well, other than the people who are currently winning).

So since this great suggestion was ignored for these auctions, can we try it for ONE player in the upcoming auctions?

Never saw this until now.
Just seems like another excuse for teams to avoid trying to improve their team.
Last mins bids are an auction thing. That's how you win. You want a certain guy, be on at that time or place your best bid before than.
Hidden auctions are interesting however utilizing a 3rd party (ie non-gm) would be required to avoid any possibility of cheating.
