I really think adding a draft pick will change a lot.

Fuck that was a fun read.... agree with points from both though
I do dislike that every time this comes up, Pens just comes in and ends it. Heck even Yotes said he'd give a change some thought (and not just the 2nd league).
I do understand Pens thoughts though, lots of GM's have spent years to build the teams now.... I mean, I may not have the best looking team in the world, but i've been to back to back conference finals, and slowly turning it around this season again.
Then on the other hand, it's true, pretty much everyone likes the top 8 they have. Like Pens, I get you just got Nash and Parise, but i don't see you trading any of your top 8 now.... i really don't, not that I blame you.
The fact that Yotes has said that he sometimes trades to try and get activity up again, should be a sign no? I mean, it does seem that everyone is fine with their teams, let them play, make maybe a trade in the off-season and does the draft....
Just my thoughts

Im gonna say it how it is....i love my top 8 and wont be giving them up for depth or anything cuz it'll hurt my team in the future. If you see that as a reason to lower the amount of keepers or what not, go for it. Im down for anything as long as its not a complete reeboot or cap league lol. But unless something happens, stay away from my core lol

No one has commented on the idea of losing 6 players and having 6 draft picks and six rounds. We still have guys with good 82s and 83s that would be 1st round picks in the past. I think it could help and make things more interesting

would just make drafts longer.... everyone still has the same 8 players.
I don't really think it changes much... IDK

If we aren't restarting or anything, I'm not down to change not keeping 8 players. The 6 pick idea just makes more possible trades and who cares if it makes the draft 30 mins longer, its better that way

I get what u mean isles but what stops someone from trading a 84 they're losing for 2 82's. or even trading a 81 + pickswap for 82

The more I think about it the better this idea is:
Only allowed to keep 5/6 of the SAME keepers each year. It'll force people to trade 2/3 of their keepers (For equal value, depth, picks, whatever). Or you keep your guys and lose them to the draft, simple as that.

That's like a half ass restart. If were doing a restart, lets restart, if not, I want my 8 guys still.

That'd be a pain to keep track of also. Like someone else said, you could just make goalies not auto-protected. It might not make a huge difference, but I know there are some guys who love their goalies and might think twice about who to protect.

some really neat ideas, I like the seniority team pick then legends draft idea, pretty sweet. Only thing is in a few seasons (likely when NHL 14 comes out) you will have to do the same thing. I mean if the teams that have Gretzky now are not moving him, what is to make the next guy to do it?
If your looking to shake things up without having to completely retool the site you could make the draft more interesting. Maybe make a system where the conference finalists lose one of their top protected players depending on how they finished the playoffs. For example:
- Conference runner-ups: Lose 1 of their top 4 players
- Runner-ups: Lose 1 of their top 3 players
- Stanley Cup Champs: Lose their top player & 1 of their top 3 players after that (do not need the second loss of a player but if you want the top 5 picks to be good then you have to)
This way the lottery picks are guaranteed a great player making the draft a little more exciting and no team that has succeeded in building their team well can hoard all their players. The draft is pretty useless right now since the worst teams most likely end up draft the same overall player (likely 2 extra overalls max) and don't actually get any better while the best teams stay the best barring a freak injury or simming BS.
It isn't the greatest idea since most people are greedy and want to hoard all of their guys giving the bad teams a pain in the ass 3-5 season long job to fix their clubs but if you don't want to do a full rebuild this system adds flavor to something you guys desperately want to change up.

Why would you punish teams for winning a Stanley Cup?
Its the same thing making goalies not auto-protecting, you then lose one of your top players, and I'm not interested in doing that unless we do a full rebuild.
And for your 3-5 season rebuild thing.. It took me two seasons to win a Stanley Cup with both teams I rebuilt, so I don't believe that. This isn't a thread for trying to help the losing teams get free players, its just to try and spark more trades.
And your whole greed thing, please explain why I should give you Gretzky for free? The top teams are the top teams for a reason, they worked hard at building their team. Its not greedy that they aren't giving away players for free.
Why not have the Leafs call up the NHL and say, hey Detroit has been greedy, they have more championships in recent years then us, can we have Datsyuk please
