I know, I know..
However, Pitts was always one of the biggest people against this.
But, you can't deny the impact it might have.
I propose for 1 season, we make the keepers format as 6 only. The top 30 players being lost are added to the draft (to fill up an exciting first round) while the next 30 would go into the auctions - Thus ensuring that we don't need to create legends for a few season and the auction will have plenty of good talent around.
The way I see it is most people have a solid 6-8 keepers. By reducing 2 (x 30 teams) you can easily fill 1 round of exciting drafting and have more leftover legends/top overalls for the auctions. If we reduce the number of legends, even for a couple of season, it'll bring their value up more. It seems everyone has many high rated guys nowadays.
I'm sure you've noticed that the trading has gone down a bit. This might add alittle more oomph into the league.
Think about it, state your opinions. *Again, it'd be a 1 time thing for now. It'd change up the league for 1 drastic season and might promote more trades.

I'm fine with it if the majority is.
Also, would people be willing to introduce another draft pick? This is something different from this 'special draft' Avs has suggested. This means we now lose 6 players to the draft instead of 5. Same 8 keeper format, but now the next 6 players go. Or, we can introduce a 9 keeper format with goalies no longer being auto-keeper and have 6 rounds. Some of you had said that I was quicker with the draft compare to prior drafts, meaning with the time saved in a sense with me handling it, it will technically be the same length as usual, only with an extra round. (no offense to Pitts haha)
If we were to do this special season, I would like to see 6 rounds either way though, meaning we would lose 7 players after our selections. This makes the draft much more important especially if you need bonus players added to your roster, making members more inclined to show up.
Edit - Also, if we were to bring these guys into the auctions, I still like the concept of introducing former 'legends' of this site. I believe we had Ohman, Petrov, Brendl, Weindhandl, Johnsson, Denisov, among others. I also would like to find a G that was very solid. Khabibulin was very good, Jean-Marc Pelletier won a Conne Smythe won year but I wouldn't consider him legend worthy. Turco was pretty good before too but meh. I would say the best one before was Khabibulin but he's still clearly in the league. Pens was saying Tim Connolly was good in 09, but again he's still in the league. I'd rather just have guys that aren't in the NHL playing. But we still have to september to decide on the 5.

I'd rather see less keepers. With an extra round, all you get is more players rated in the 77-80 range. Their impact is less than that of the smaller amount of keepers.
We could combine both, however..

We could combine both, however.. I do like this idea. I think every new game / 6 seasons we should do this. We are at a point where Legends are very meh and it's painful trying to find some. Obviously when some guys do retire like Jagr, Selanne etc we will bring them in, but the main reason they keep being added is because of the auctions at this point. The way I see this extra round is the top teams have 82s-83s locked up which would be 1st or 2nd round picks, it strengthens the draft in a sense

I see your point but the amount of teams with such high leftovers is very few.
I like the idea of having less keepers every x amount of seasons. I imagine those seasons will end up with more trading due to this format.
Any sort of change. Add a lil' more excitement into this league. I haven't made any big splashes in awhile and I feel content with my team. However, I'd love to add this element just to create more buzz. We'd obviously put it to a league poll but seeing people in the past who bitched about too many keepers, I'm sure the majority will accept.

i like the idea of a lower keepers list for a change. would be great if we could try and get everything done prior to the NHL 14 OA's coming out though. my pet peeve this time of the year is that some people know the new info and others dont. i like fairness for all.

I have always wanted to do a 5 or 6 Keeper Draft every so often just to get trading more active. I am all for making it 6 with each new game or something along those lines

Yes, I like the idea of a smaller list. But if we're doing only one time as 6, maybe make the draft even bigger. 4 rounds, maybe?

Bad wording on my part.
If we're making it a one time thing or like JM suggested every game switch, we should make this one a big draft, so fewer keepers(maybe 4). Then when we go through each offseason that isn't a game switch we could do a 8 keeper format w 6 rounds and goalies in play.
Taking ideas from whats been posted

Btw Avs, do you mean we would keep our top 6, then lose our next five or six? I was thinking we all still put 5 in the draft and one for the auctions. Possibly lose 7 and put 6 in the draft and go with 6 rounds htis year making this something separate.
Also, since tehnically a lot of us will be giving up the better players for nothing, during one round, do you want us to basically make it a snake draft? It wouldn't be none stop and it'd just be once.
This would only be because the better teams are giving up the best players technically for no reason in a sense, but this wouldn't be for the 1st round, or would you rather just keep it the way it is.

If we are going to do this we need to have another trade deadline at the end of the season or wait until year 31. People are setting up there keepers now and it wouldn't be fair to spring this on everybody. We should let them know what we are considering here before we get going to far.

We could always leave it to a league vote when to do it. In a sense it might be better to spring it on people so the draft is stronger, I could then just see people trading their 88s for 1st round picks
More input though please!
