I also would have looked more into the Hodgson trade I made with Pens prior to pulling the trigger I was wondering why you even did that trade lol

The rules also clearly state that each team loses 5 players. AND the first thing I tell every GM when they join is to READ THE RULES. Clearly, this wasn't done by Canes.

we would need 25 plus rounds to our draft. But we only have 5 for the 5 players that are lost to the draft Oh, I am in no way saying we should have 230923 rounds like that, no. But like, if the purpose of a draft is to improve my shit team, and I think my team (based on its build) would do better with like, Jagr (81) than it would with some chump at 83, I don't think it makes sense to tie Jagr up on a technicality like that. You would be the first to say that ratings aren't everything in sim leagues. There are dozens of really simple ways around the whole 25 rounds thing, from either making each team protect 8 guys but they can only lose 5 total (which is what I thought the rule meant - so if i take a 77 from a team, they actually get to keep a better player in his place). The rules also clearly state that each team loses 5 players. Yes, but they don't say 5 players of their choosing. They say they KEEP 8 players. This means that the rest of their team is unprotected. AND the first thing I tell every GM when they join is to READ THE RULES. Clearly, this wasn't done by Canes. www.eanhlsimulation.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=leaguerules&action=display&thread=9183I read them twice before joining and again a few hours ago to see where I missed that you can NOT draft from people's unprotected players. It is not there anywhere. Again, by definition, a Keeper draft is about who you keep. Protecting people is about protecting THOSE guys. Not your bottom 13 players. I think it only makes sense that if a shit team wants to draft from a teams unprotected roster, they should be able to do that, outside of the goalies and the 8 protected super-duperstars. I was wondering why you even did that trade lol And yeah, that was an awful deal for him. A younger, higher drafted, arguably higher touted player... So we all agree I got screwed on a deal I completed under false pretenses, and we are cool with it? (As I said, losing both guys to draft changes that deal a lot - I thought it was a half-season loaner thing).

Yes, but they don't say 5 players of their choosing. They say they KEEP 8 players. This means that the rest of their team is unprotected. After you choose your 8, the next highest 5 rated skaters on your team will enter the draft. If there is a tie in ratings, you will be able to choose who stays and who enters the draft. I'd say that seems pretty crystal clear, I think you'd agree. The drafts have been the same format ever since we changed from being a cap league (when you were still here), and you even stuck around for 1 or 2 more seasons after the fact with the draft in this format. So saying that you didn't know the draft format is a crock. As for our deal, it's two 78s and I like Granlund almost as much as Hodgson, so if you really want to we can trade back in the off-season. Granlund is the younger, higher drafted one though, not Hodgson.

As soon as I learned I was losing most of my team to this keeper draft silliness, I left. I was not here for another season, nor for a single draft. Remember, the reason I left was the keeper draft. Sticking around for it would have made no sense.

Justin actually brings up an interesting thing.
Why not just have 8 Keeps (and then goalies) and everyone is fair game to be drafted off of your roster after that.?
I am fine with things now, but it would make the drafts a bit more interesting, and would take more strategy

Pardon me, you left midway through Season 4 which was our first year of no-cap. Regardless, this "keeper draft silliness" is exactly the same format as when you protested it by leaving. So to suggest that you didn't know how it worked, as I said, is a load.

In this format, all you need to do to loophole the system is get guys rated higher than the guys you want to keep. I really don;t see the harm in letting people pick from all unprotected players. It would actually give the league a small shake, without anyone losing their key guys. It would also get more trades going, since people might offer more interesting deals to get their lower rated guys back.

If I do, will the league honour it if people want that option?
Also, you sound like you are trying to make this personal. This isn't personal. I just think its a great small thing we can do to help teams rebuild. As I said, lots of people build on chemistry and roles, more than ratings.

I don;t see why people would be opposed to it. If I take a 78 off your team instead of one of your 83s, you get to keep a better guy.

You misunderstand. That is why I said you can still only take 5 guys MAX from 1 team.
So when you set up the keeper lists, make everyone toss their team beside their Players (Bob Smith 80 PLY PIT), and once a team has lost 5 players, remove all of their remaining available players from the draft list.
