The StoryAfter a not-so-good season, the Avalanche were looking for a New General Manager, and they approached me, so I took the job, they said they were expecting me to make an impact and wanted 41 wins this season. The DraftWe head into the draft wanting 5 specific players; LW Sean Jones (4th Round Pick) LW Spencer Asuchak (4th/5th Round Pick) D Matt Ashman (1st Round Pick) LW Turner Elson (4th/5th Round Pick) D Patrick Downie (1st/2nd Round Pick) I decide to shop some veterans, Adam Foote, Milan Hejduk, and to see what interest is out there, Paul Stastny So we have the 17th Pick and since it is a very weak draft, i won't waste my team moving up. TOR calls and offers me Gunnarsson, Lashoff for Jay McClement and a 4th and 5th in this draft. (I Accept) PHX offers me Ebbett and Maclean for Stastny, (I reject) 17th Overall Pick: Stefan Ulmer, TWD, Swiss BOS offers me Dennis Seidenberg and a 5th this draft for Milan Hejduk, (I reject, Seidenberg is overpaid) BUF offers me a 2011 1st for Kyle Quincey, (I accept) 47th Overall Pick: Michal Kempny DFD, Czech CAR offers me Joe Corvo for Matt Hunwick and David Koci, (I counter wanting Tim Gleason, they accept) BOS offers me the same deal, except the pick is in 2011 (I reject) 77th Overall Pick: Stephen Gaskin DFD Canadian CBJ offers me Craig Rivet, and Jared Boll for Stastny, I ask for Brassared straight up (they say they didn't want the cap) CAR offers me Patrick O'Sullivan and Derek Joslin for Adam Foote, Ryan O'Byrne and a 5th (I accept) 197th Overall Pick: Alex Aleardi PLY C USA Season Later!

At the end of November we are 13-9-2 and need to step up our game a bit. We currently sit 3rd in the West.
I trade a minor league d-man Joel Chouinard to Toronto for Mike Brown.
In December we begin to struggle, so I decide to make another trade. I send Erik Johnson and a 4th to Tampa Bay for Victor Hedman.

Shouldn't have rejected that NY offer, Grachev ends up being a stud in a few years.
Keep it up, though.

The deal with Boston wasn't bad, A young backup and a 1st for an aging starter isn't THAT bad IMO. And yeah the Stamkos deal was a bit unfair, but Duchene feeding Stamkos and Parise(who I hoped at getting) was WAY too tempting

Regular Season
So we win our season opener against CBJ 6 to 1, Simon Gagne getting a hat trick. Great start to the season.
My Scout tells me the draft will be weaker than normal, that sucks for the bottom feeders, not me though.
We end October wil a record of 9-3-0, good enough for 2nd in the West.
We have a bit of a tough month in November, slightly improving our record to 15-9-2 and now just 4th in the West.
(GM Rep Goes Up)
We have a good month and heading into the New Year we are now 23-13-2, but still remain 4th in the West.
Heading into the All-Star break we still sit 4th in the West despite improving our record to 32-16-2.
GM Representatives: Steven Stamkos (1G 2A), Tim Thomas(Back-up)
Heading into March we have a record of 40-18-3 and sit 1st in the West and the NHL (Tied with Van).
We go 2-1 before the Deadline.

STL offers a prospect and a 3rd for Cumiskey (I'm not rebuilding...)

STL offers me another deal for Lidstrom, I reject
NJD offers me a deal that's not worth me typing.... I rejected it BTW
Heading into my last 10 games, we have a record of 45-24-3 and remain 1st in the West/NHL by 1 point over STL. We finish with a record of 52-26-4 clinching the Presidents Trophy.
