Yeah, he meant top pick haha, 1 friend = 1st round haha I think getting the first overall pick is a bit much personally. I like the idea of 1 friend = 3rd 2 friends = 2nd 3 friends = 1st cash out whenever you want (meaning if you get only 1 friend one season, you can opt not to have the pick yet and go and try and get 2 more to upgrade to that 1st, or have the choice of a 3rd and 2nd) Are people okay with this example.

I legit meant 1st overall. If that's not crazy enough incentive for someone to tell all their friends to join than nothing is.
But 1st round sounds more plausible.

1st overall for how many new members? It is a HUGE prize, so you kind of have a point with the "If that's not crazy enough incentive nothing is" part.
ALso, what if like...you bring 4 guys in just before the draft. Do you have to wait until the next draft, since we have the waiting period and post requirement?

I'd say yes. As you said, we need to be careful with people just getting a few buddies or using fake IP's to sign up. By installing a post count, we'd ensure that those new GM's are somewhat active.
*We'd also have to carefully monitor it. I mean, I doubt anyone would try to lie here but you never know. They may post 15 times in 1 day, 15 in another and than be offline for the next 3 weeks.

Giving all trusted staff members to the security log or ip information would help a little bit. To be completely honest though, I think at this stage people know how to get people here, and its not a matter of getting them here, it's a matter of getting interest back. Especially for people that left. For that issue, this feels like a Band-Aid fix. That's why I felt the suggestion box suggestion was very strong - it was based a lot on feedback from former members from other sites, and the reasons they left/would not return.
But that aside, I think we need some sort of incentive to stay for the new members. Like, when you refer someone to a cell phone company, the reason it works is because BOTH people get the bonus ($20 off your bill, or what have you). So people should have incentive to sign up AND incentive to refer friends.

I also like that idea. Join and receive a complimentary pick? Special scouting reports from Cook?
Edit: You said the leftover teams are crap - SO, why not make a list of 5 players (either from the auctions or a few created semi-legends) that these new GM's can pick to have on their team?

I donno if scouting reports would matter, would they? Might also be more work for jm. But an extra pick at the end of the draft before the bonus rounds would be totally easy/do-able. It's not huge, but it's a free player. I always like the bonus rounds. WHat do you think, is that too little? I mean, they could trade it too, so it's still a bonus asset for sure.

That could also be a good selling point for getting new members. Even though they are primarily depth, they are a cool, free, immediate bonus asset that a new GM will get to choose. That would work well, I think. Nice one.

I'd say the players could be rated between 83-86. Not huge, but a decent enough incentive.
So, the person joining gets a free player. Person who brings in someone gets free picks.
Not the worst. Should start to get people talking.
I think the give-and-take between this site and GMX is beneficial. If a few more guys join both leagues (if they're not apart of both yet) it'll keep things active. Both sites have different systems which makes it unique and fun.

I agree. Now, would we be looking at straight from the posted auction pile, or the unposted auction list that Cook has?

I do scouting reports for anybody that asks, all the time. Any information people have wanted I have supplied, be it stats or just my opinion. If people ask what strategy I use I tell them straight up. Mind you that changes a lot with NHL14 LOL. There are lots of players for auctions this year that we could easily do a player to help those teams also
