Proboards Upgrade

I am guessing several of you may have seen this on here by now:

ProBoards

Right now, we are sort of at a between-season downtime. Should we take advantage of this to switch the site over now, or wait as long as possible for the switch? Again, I think we should remind people of the change, mass PMs and such (I can do all that), because at the very beginning, I know I had lots of problems with logging in and stuff (you have to link an email and in some cases log in with that, and blah blah blah. Maybe they fixed it since then, but yeah.

Pros of switching now:
- between season stuff, not much going on
- I have the time to sit down and do the function/aesthetic switch-over in one sitting, whereas if proboards does it, I could be off, or away, or busy, etc.
- we have time before the season starts to make sure no one has problems with the new site.

Cons of switching now:
- Some members might not come back - this is the case regardless of when the switch happens. I know Bruins had to quit another site because new proboards was problematic on his phone.
- any others you guys come up with.


Anyways, just a thought, and MAYBE a way to ease the transition into Proboards v5 while taking control of the transition, rather than having Proboards do it whenever they please.

With no additional input here, I'll probably go with what is here, the basic red and white design. I donno what happened to the background with Brodeur, but it hasn;t shown up for me in a while - I will re-add that, unify the team logos, and I would really like to re-structure the archives if at all possible. Our archives are our biggest asset, and what make us unique. If nothing was deleted, we have the richest sim site history on planet earth and that should be clear and accessible.

I'll keep the current image-banner thing, unless you want me to make a new one? We could also hold a contest, if you think people would make good ones?

- the team logos on the main page - right now they don't all match, the Dallas logo is the old one, etc. for simplicity, i'll probably grab the images off GMX, but if you know another site with up to date mini-logos that do not need manual uploading, i'm open to all suggestions. The division logos i had on other sites looked large and obnoxious, but when I do the change, i will look and see what I can find. when the conference logos are too big, the conference bars are too big, and it just looks amateur hour. BUt we'll see what we can find.

- I shat a brick when you said you deleted it all. Then I un-shat it when you said you were joking. I think I can breathe again. Wasn;t thinking anything super special, just a basic Season-By-Season archive set up. might take a while to do, but it will be kinda neat when done, and won't really look any different as far as the site is concerned. On Proboards v5 you can have infinite subboards, so it just lets you archive better. Hard to explain, easy to show. If you wanna see what I mean, check the archives on manmma.proboards.com.

- yeah, i kinda figured/feared that. I'll go with the current one and if i have a minute, i'll make another one (wider for the new proboards) and maybe poll people to see if they prefer current or new one. that's a sliver down the road though, after the change.

Haha, does it hurt having all that shit headed back up there (Classic South Park moment (Not sure if it's actually considered a classic though)).

I believe the issue before was having 30 subboards or boards or whatever they are called, show up on the main page. If you can do with season by season as a subboard and then have subboards in those seasons for trades etc. that'd be better imo. You'll just have to go by the dates and assume they were from certain seasons. If you need any help with figuring certain things out, I'll likely be able to remember/figure it out/help out hahah

Yes, well with old proboards (this one) you can only have 1 sub-board. So in Archives, you can have one sub board, then all the threads are listed there. So it goes Archives>Trades (then all the trades).

With New Proboards, it's infinite, so yes, exactly as you said. It will be Archives>Season 1>Trade Center>Accepted trades

Or whatever the set up is that makes sense. But generally, sorting them by seasons should be really cool.

Related to that, please, PLEASE PLEASE never delete this site, even if you close it. I absolutely love site history, and if you never delete it, all that history can stay here even if literally no one ever comes here. I love it.

Yes, I would love to make it to season 100. Would be crazy, but so was 5 years in the beginning. To have all that history would be incredible
