Hey, I was just wondering about the draft... maybe I'm missing something? Normally a draft helps crappy teams get better, but I had the 4th overall pick, and good position for the next rounds, yet compaired to what I gave up to the draft, my team actually lost 3 overalls. Am I missing something? Is there really any point to the draft?

Are those 5 guys you lost the ones you drafted in the previous draft? I thought you were pretty active during auctions so if you upgrade there it shouldn't be a surprise.
But the players available in the draft vary every year so some years the top 5 picks will turn out to be better players than the top 5 in a different draft. The thing is that if you got a high pick your 5 picks will be better than the 5 picks for other teams who drafted lower in the round. You can't really compare to previous seasons.

People need to learn to downgrade on the players they're losing to draft, to upgrade bench players/keepers. That's how your team gets better.

I usually give up ruffly 5 83's in the draft. But I don't get that back, but that is because I build up my players during the season in auctions

It is a matter of drafting some impact players. There are always alot of those in the draft. Just have to find the ones that fit your roster the best. There were some players in this draft that people didn't want and that blew me away. Buys like Bolland are studs in the game. I thought you would want to get him back in Chicago, he was huge for you when you had him.

Gotta the best 5 that suits your needs, some of them even if lower rated may have bigger impact

That makes sense I guess. I just thought the draft is where the the new legends get added. So if you finish in the bottom, you get something that can impact your team. If a guy really works at it, and gets some luck, I can see how the system would work. But more times than not, I just see the rich staying rich, and the poor staying poor. I'll just keep chipping away at the auctions, and trade my picks to get upgrades

I'll just keep chipping away at the auctions, and trade my picks to get upgrades Lol you have no idea how much you can improve your team from one season. Lets say you draft an 83, 83, 82, 81 and an 80. Through auctions up until the trade deadline you can probably change those 5 guys to 84, 84, 83, 83 and 82. Easily. At trade deadline there are plenty of playoff teams who will be looking to upgrade and gear up for the playoffs. If your team didn't do so well, downgrade on those 5 players you drafted (and upgraded through auctions). Get 82's, 81's and 80's for them while upgrading on picks, your leftover players and/or your keepers. Just don't downgrade too low because you want to keep them as your draftees. So after one season your 8th keeper may now be an 86 instead of an 84, your highest leftover player might be a 79 instead of a 77 and you might have gotten a 3rd pick over a 4th. I literally did this one entire season and improved my team a hell of a ton. I'm still working at it. There are so many opportunities to improve your team through things that Yotes/Pens have added in this league. You can't just think you're going to get a stronger team just by drafting every season. It doesn't work like that. I hope that helps. I can see your frustration as a new member with a weaker team compared to others. I was in the same situation not long ago.

I'm not frustrated really, it just seems lateral to me. Everyone gets back pretty much what they gave up in the first place. So Yotes needs to move 150+ players for what? In cap leagues rookies are cheap for three years, you have youth to build on, and you add something without giving anything up. So it makes sence. But here, If player auctions are where you get better, why bother with the draft?
It's probably just the simmer in me, but it just seems like a lot of work for next to no reason.

there is alot of movement by people all season long, to either try and upgrade there Keepers and get better picks. People will ask me during the draft what they should pick, I always tell them who I would pick even if that was going to be my next pick. Even thought alot of people don't like some of the players in the draft I guarentee I could build a playoff team out of just what is in the draft. Well and A goalie. There is lots available, you just have to find the right pieces
