Thought I'd join in and make my own Be-A-GM write up. I decided to try and build a winner out of Columbus. I'll be blowing it up. I'm going to sim up to the all-star break and make sure I am last in the league at that time. Season 1. 2011-12 Hoping to keep it realistic as possible I left trading off. The way I tossed my games was simple, ice horrible players, for the most part. By January, at the all-star break my record is 5-43-1!! I lost 32 games in a row. 32! ALL in regulation. Here was my line up for the first half; Smith[71]-Johansen[81]-Boll[79] Gillies[75]-Gabriel[70]-Kubalik[68] Umberger[84]-Brassard[83]-Atkinson[74] Prospal[82]-Pahlsson[83]-Dorsett[79] Blomqvist[71]-Delisle[71] Clitsome[78]-Johnson[77] Methot[80]-Martinek[80] Allen[71] Mason[84] Just some fun(laughable) stats from the first half; 49GP 5W 43L 1OTL 11pts 83GF 232GA Highest scorer, Umberger with 8g & 20a for 28pts D Steven Delisle 49gp 0g 1a 1pt -64 G Allen York 49gp 5w 42l 4.73GAA & 0.853SV% Okay, after that it's time to take over. Play the game for real. Injuries and CPU trading back on. Huselius[84]-Carter[87]-Nash[89] Umberger[84]-Vermette[84]-Brassard[83] Prospal[83]-Johansen[81]-Pahlsson[83] Gillies[75]-Dorsett[79]-Boll[79] Tyutin[81]-Wisniewski[83] Martinek[80]-Methot[80] Johnson[77]-Clitsome[78] Mason[84] York[71] Everyone but Johansen is available. I win the first game after the All-Star game! My first point in over 30 games! Going into the trade deadline I am 8-52-2. The day before the deadline I try to make a few trades, not enough phones on deadline day. Trade Wisniewski to STL for Cole, Huskins & 2nd Trade Brassard, Atkinson, Giroux & Savard to NJ for Henrique, Urbom & 2nd Trade Clitsome, Huskins & Letestu to CAR for Spacek Trade Nash, Tyutin, Moore & two future picks to NYI for Okposo, Hamonic & Niederreiter Trade Johnson & Calvert to CHI for Stalberg & O'Donnell Trade Prospal, Dorsett & future 3rd to DET for Smith & Helm Trade Umberger, Mackenzie, St.Pierre & future 2nd to VAN for Hansen, Reinprecht & Hodgson A few minor trades getting rid of multiyear contracts(2yrs or more of 90% of the team) That leaves Vermette, Carter and Mason for the deadline. Trade deadline; Hour 1 and 2 amount to nothing productive. No good offers. Hour 3: Trade Huselius to OTT for 1st & Gryba Hour 4: Try offering Vermette to NSH for Blum and 1st, no dice. Hour 5: CHI offers Leddy & Lalonde for a 2nd - I want picks but like Leddy. I try switching the 2nd to NJ's, no dice. Final Hour: PHX offers Schlemko for Russel & Madaisky - No thanks ANA offers Gordan for Russel & Madaisky - No thanks Try for Blum & 1st again. I get it after the 1st try. Trade Vermette, future 1st, & 3rd to NSH for Blum & 1st I still have Carter and Mason. Both to be likely dealt at the draft. (Eying LA's Voynov & Bernier for Carter) Deadline OVER. New line-up; Henrique[78]-Carter[87]-Okposo[84] Hodgson[77]-Johansen[81]-Boll[79] Gillies[75]-Helm[81]-Hansen[81] Klinkhammer[74]-Reinprecht[77]-Mayorov[74] Blum[80]-Hamonic[82] Spacek[82]-Methot[80] Nikitin[76]-O'Donnell[79] Mason[83] Tarkki[75] Injuries; Pahlsson[83], Martinek[80] & Stalberg[81] *Team looks a lot worse overall wise, but I also got 3 1sts and about 5 2nds.* Will post the rest of the season and off-season later.

I have $32.560M to spend.
I don't really need anything up front, personnel wise, but overall wise it's pretty low. Defense, I'd like to add a top d-man. Goalie, still looking to move Mason and get someone else.
I sign RFA Perron to a 6yr $3.5m offer - He accepts, gotta wait for STL now. Sign Jamie Langenbrunner 1yr $1.2m Sign Bryce Salvador 1yr $1.5m Sign Pavel Kubina 1y $5m
St.Louis Matches my RFA offer.

Definitely. lol
They won the cup, I'm sure they're happy.
Sedin-Sedin-Umberger was the reason too. 20+ points each.
I played a pre-season game, just to get a feel of some of the players. Grigorenko is fucking awesome. Big, strong, fast, great hands. Scored a hatty.

Season 2;
Pre-season 3-1
After a strong start to the season, 4-0 with 2 shutouts and a GAA of 1. The team starts to slip a bit.
After November team record is 14-13-2
After December team record is 20-19-3
Steve Mason sucks, shoulda dealt him earlier. I'm going to try Deslauries, see how he does. Deadline I'm going for a goalie. Deslauries goes 6-2 going into the all-star break, better than Mason.
All-star Rep was Blum. West wins 3-2 in OT Blum 0pts +1
End February 33-26-5. Not bad.
Going into the deadline team goes 1-4, not great. Some tweeks needed. Team is 7th in the West, 1 point out of the divison lead though.
Grigorenko leads the team in points 60 Couture leafs in goals with 29 Blum lead the D with points at 50
Top 6 is very balanced all with 50+ points
Deslauries makes the team play better, but his numbers are bad. 3+GAA <.900S%
I might look to add a 3rd line C.
I will look for a 2nd pairing D-man, upgrade Methot. and I will look to deal Mason for a different goalie.

Post-deadline;
I end the season 44-30-8 that's good for the division win and 3rd in the conference.
Some team stats; Team finishes 1st in goals for - But finished 2nd last in goals against. My PP is #2 and my PK is average.
AHL team finished 5th in the league.
Grigorenko lead my team in goals with 34 and points with 75. Top 6 all had over 20 goals each and at least 65points.
Best bottom 6 guy would be Hodgson with 26pts
After a great pre-deadline Blum only got 6 points after it. Finishes with 14g 56pts
Deslauriers numbers got better, and Niemi's stayed good after acquiring him.
Playoffs Round 1 CLB vs EDM Game 1 - L 4 - 2 Game 2 - W 4 - 2 Game 3 - W 3 - 2 Game 4 - W 3 - 2 Game 5 - L 4 - 1 Game 6 - L 8 - 4..... Game 7 - L 4 - 3... well fuck
Top line was shit.
Penguins win the Cup over the Oilers in 6 games. Staal wins the Smythe.
Mikhail Grigorenko wins the Calder.
Ovechkin sweeps the major awards and Kipper was the best goalie.
Draft; I have no picks, so there's that.. Round 1; Wings offer Kronwall for Johansen & Boll - No. Nucks offer Umberger for Johansen & Boll - No. Jets offer Oduya & Fehr for Couture - No..
#1 overall pick goes to Colorado - D.Vanderwiel
Round 2; More crappy offers for Couture and Johansen form Montreal, Toronto and Senators
Round 3; More crappy offers.
Enough of that, no picks, crap offers. Auto the rest of the draft.
Some contracts up that are important pieces; Henrique, Hodgson, Blum, Hamonic and some depth. $24M - Should be good.
Signed all the main guys to long term deals.
Let Langenbrunner and Kubina walk. Salvador retired.
In UFA I'll be looking for a top 4 d-man a bottom pairing d-man 3rd line winger
for the AHL; 1 LW 2 D 1 G
I offer Douglas Murray 2yr $2.45M - Accepted I offer Visnovsky 1yr $4.75M - Rejected I offer Elias 1yr $2.8M - Accepted
I offer Davis Drewiske 1yr $1.25M - Accepted
All position targets acquired, I'm good to go.
The new line-up;
Yakupov[81]-Couture[85]-Okposo[84] Perron[84]-Johansen[83]-Grigorenko[83] Elias[85]-Hodgson[83]-Henrique[84] Stalberg[81]-Helm[81]-Hansen[81]

After a good season opener, 4-1 win over LA, the team is at a bad spot two months in.
10-10-3 after November.
No need to trades, yet, make a few strategy changes and line changes.
After December, 16-16-5.. 12th in the West, 6 points out.
Need a change I think.
Trade Elias, 2nd, 2nd, Perreault, & Eckford to STL for Clowe, 6th & 7th
21-20-7 at the All-Star break...
Grigorenko is selected to go to the All-star game. West wins 3-0, Grigorenko with a goal.
The team is not bad in net, Niemi has decent numbers. But they lack scoring. Need a change up front.
Going into the deadline the team is in 9th place, 2 points out and 30-26-7.
My main goal is to upgrade Drewiske for a good OFD.
4 hours remain; NSH offers depth for Okposo - No thanks.
3 hours remain; PHI offers Taormina, Betts & Read for Helm, Stalberg & Dekanich - Nah BOS offers Marchand & Paille for Okposo - No thanks.
I offer BOS Drewiske, 1st & 3rd for Chara - No dice.
2 hours remain; PHX offers Hanzal, Kampfer & Hensick for Hansen, Stalberg, & Boll - Nah CHi offers Frolik & Bickell for Henrique - Nah PHI offers Simmonds, Gragnani, & Betts for Henrique - Nah OTT offers Lee, Smith, Gervais for Johansen & Drewiske - nah EDM offers Smid, Eager, Teubert & Potter for Henrique - nah
I offer FLA Drewiske, Sterling, Boll & 3rd for Campebll - he's in the minors - they reject
1 hour remain; A few bad offers, nothing important.
I try again for Campbell - Drewiske, Currie, Trask, 1st & 3rd for Campebll - They reject.
Final hour; More bad offers
I try this package a few times; Drewiske, Currie, & Trask. Beauchemin - rejected Kaberle - rejected Streit - rejected Kubina - rejected
I try adding a pick - Drewiske, Currie, Trask, 1st & 3rd to WPG for Enstrom - Rejected
Wasted deadline, nothing..
At the end of March the team is in 6th, only two points out of 9th, and a record of 38-30-8.
It comes down to one game. Anaheim has the 8th place right now with 88 points, 82GP. I have 81GP 87PTS. I need a WIN, I don't have the tie breaker.
For the final game I play St.Louis at home.
Game 82; After one period shots are 5 - 5 score tied at 0.
1:26 into the 2nd Johansen takes the feed from Perron in the slot to make it 1-0.
3:23 Grigorenko takes the feed from Hamonic and rings one off the post.
7:26 into the 2nd period Couture takes the feed via Yakupov from the red line, breaks in dekes around Pietrangelo, SCORES! Jackets lead the Blues 2-0!
14:30 into the 2nd period, Grigorenko shoots from the blue line, Johansen whacks at it, Halak saves, Perron jumps on the rebound, scores!! 3-0 Jackets
2nd period ends, 3-0 Jackets.
6:26 into the 3rd on a delayed penalty Elias pushes one pass Neimi, 3-1 Jackets
with 42.2 seconds remaining Grigorenko makes to 4-1 with an empty net goal.
Blue Jackets win, they make the playoffs!!

Rinne wins the Vezina My contract is up, I still want to make this team win a cup, so I look for a new deal. they offer 2,3,4,5 yrs. I accept a 3 yr deal.

Re-signing; Couture, Johansen, 4th line need to be re-signed. Re-sign them all. Couture and Johansen long term and the 4th line for 2 yrs.

I start off with a 4-1 win over Chicago.
I sim a few months, to the end of December. I finish 19-13-2
After that I play through to the All-Star break at .500, nothing special.
I ride a 4 game win streak into the break.
Grigorenko is chosen to represent the team at the game, he scores the only goal for the West in a losing effort. 3-1.
After the break, the win streak continues. 11 wins after the game, that's a 15 game win streak. Anaheim ends the win streak at 15 with a OT win.
The deadline is now here, my record is 39-21-5. That's good for 4th in the West, two out of the division lead. 13 away from 8th, so I'm in decent shape.
