The Story

So I am hired by The Toronto Maple Leafs as GM after Brian Burke stepped down as GM but he remains as President. Under Burke's guidance, I hope to bring the Leafs to the playoffs.

The Action

So Burkie calls and tells me to make an impact right away, he expects 40 wins this season.

(BTW this is on hard, I guess they made things more realistic expectation wise??)

So me and my scout sit down and watch the prospects game, we put together a list of 5 players we want to target:

RW Brody Sutter (2nd round)
RW Brad Hoban (4th/5th round)
RW Killian Hutt (4th round)
C Dominic Desando (4th/5th round)
RW Michael Fine (1st/2nd round)

I decide to shop JS Giguere, Mike Komisarek and for fun Phil Kessel.

So we get offered Michael Blunden and Jared Boll from CBJ for Mike Brown, Jay Rosehill, Colton Orr and a 3rd (I counter with Sjostrom for Blunden, they accept!)

OTT offers me Chris Campoli for Brett Lebda and Jay Rosehill (I counter with Greenop and Lebda, They accept!)

No Pick in 1st Round

EDM offers me Dustin Penner for Colby Armstrong (I accept)

I get an offer from NYR, Steve Eminger and Jeremy Williams for Phil Kessel (ahaha)

I offer BOS my 3rd and NJD's 5th for my 2nd (They accept)

With the 32nd Overall Pick, we selected Brody Sutter, a 6'4 RW from Canada

I get 2 more offers from Anaheim and Tampa for Kessel that are laughable.

The Rangers offer me Steve Eminger, Matt Gilroy and Ruslan Fedotenko for Mike Komisarek and Keith Aulie (I counter with Komi and Lashoff and 4th 2011 for Grachev, Gilroy and McIlrath....They reject, didn't want to take on that much cap)

PHX offers me Lepisito, Ebbett and Maclean for Kessel and Aulie (no.....)

With our 4th round pick, we draft..Kyle Verdino, a twd from the U.S (6'0 204ilbs)

Season 1

So the Pens lose MA Fleury for the first month and Dallas loses Goligoski for the first month. (Only two Injuries)

So I give Reimer the first few games, to see how he does, he starts with a 3-2 loss to the Habs. After 4 games we are 0-4-0, so I send Reimer down and give Gustavsson the starters role.

By the end of October we are 3-7-0, Giguere will get the starters spot for November.

(GM Rep Goes up)

So thanks to a 5 game winning streak going into December, are no 11-12-0 and 12th in the east. Giguere will keep the Starters role until he gets hurt or starts to suck.

Heading into the new year we are 17-17-2, and moved up 1 spot in the standings (11th in east). BTW Dustin Penner leads the league in goals (23) and Paul Stastny leads the league in assists (32). Penner T-1st in Points (45 with Gaborik)

At the end of January and into the all-star break we are now 23-22-4... BUT we lose Giggy until the Trade Deadline with a Broken Hand, James Reimer gets the call.

All-Star Game: (Penner and Phaneuf rep. us) 4-3 for East, Phaneuf gets an assist, Penner gets nadda

Heading into the Trade Deadline we are 31-27-5, good enough for 8th in the east, holding on by 2 points over CAR.

Today we are looking to upgrade our defense, and add some forward depth.

SJS offers me Sean Sullivan for a 2012 4th rounder, (I counter with a 5th, they reject)

I trade Carl Gunnarsson and a 2012 2nd Rounder to Pittsburgh for Brooks Orpik (Pittsburgh BTW is completely out of the playoff hunt, even after fleury came back they are 19-29)

COL offers me Jay McKee for Tyler Bozak, I reject

BUF offers Shaone Morrisonn and Chris Butler for JS Giguere and two 4ths, (I accept, the search for a Goalie is on)

So we are unable to find a goalie, but i'm confident in our D-Day deals.

So heading into the last 10 games, we are 35-30-7 and sit 7th, but only by a point, as BUF, NYR and CAR all have 76 points, us and the Islanders have 77.

With 5 games remaining, we have a record of 38-31-8 1 point behind Pittsburgh (who somehow climbed back into it) and the flyers.

One Game Remaining and we have a record of 40-33-8, and are out of the playoffs, as NYI has 90 points to our 88, but have 44 wins. Pittsburgh has 89 and are the only team that can pass the Islanders.

So I lost all of the off-season, but technically, I outwaited Luke Schenn, to get a lower contract, but once I heard BUF was interested, I signed him. I drafted a rookie named Kirk Campbell, a SNP from the U.S 19th Overall, he scored 3 goals in 2 pre-season games.

So we finish the pre-season 2-2-0 Not Bad, here's our line-up going into the season;

I'll likely swap the goalies month for month

So Burke calls me and tells me he wants the playoffs, that means I need to keep scanning the league for 1. A Starting Goalie and 2. A Upgrade on LW

So we start off the year with a 6-5 victory over the Oilers, good start. It carries on the rest of October, finishing with a 10-4 record, I decide to let Jonas Gustavsson run with the ball.

Vancouver placed Cory Schneider on Waivers, I claim him, in hopes of later dealing him with Kule for a Top Line Winger.

After falling to 10-10-1, I call up Schneider and give him a shot, I send down Reimer, who is on a 2-way contract. We end up finishing 13-12-1, we have alot of work to do.

Schneider will get December.We have a HUGE December, going 11-1-1, for a grand total of 24-13-2, for 2nd in the East, Schneider just earned the starters role, for now.

At the end of January, and going unto the all-star break, we are 29-19-3 and are now 3rd.

Dion Phaneuf is are only representative at the all-star game this year, and he goes pointless.

After a fairly poor effort in February we now sit 8th in the East with a record of 34-25-3.

I pull off a deal with the Atlanta Thrashers, acquiring Blake Wheeler for Michael Blunden and a 2nd, that improves the 3rd Line greatly.

We manage to pull off 0 deals at the deadline, after wanting to upgrade the D.

Gustavsson will now get a chance to take the starters role, after two sub-par months by Schneider.

Heading into the last 10 games, we have a record of 39-30-3, sitting just 7th in the East by 3 points (and wins, since FLA has 81 in 8th too)

With just 5 games left, we have a record of 42-32-3, we remain in 7th by 3 points over TB(9th) and 2 over FLA(8th)

We have 2 games left and remain in 7th, but have a spot in the playoffs. We are tied with Montreal and just 2 points back of Ottawa for the Division lead.

We beat Boston 3-2 in OT

Now if we beat Montreal, we can pass Ottawa and finish 2nd in the East, and possibly face Ottawa or Montreal.

We end up losing to MTL in OT, so we finish 6th and will face WSH.
