Hello, and welcome to the Sloppy Second. Today we will look at a Franchise that went for greatness with Former GM.... well..... me. Then when well.... I had to step down, a new GM was hired.
Most of you around know him as "allabouthockey". Well I did some digging recently, talked to his family members and ummm.... friend. I found out that "allabouthockey" is actually short for "Iactuallyknownothingatallabouthockey". Shocking isn't it?
Anyway, he took over the Flames, a team in which was in great shape, built around such players as; Dion Phaneuf, Cam Ward, Dustin Brown, Taylor Hall, etc. All the new GM really had to do is build around these players and the team would remain a contender. Instead the new GM decided to make a record 5 trades per day, trading the entire core left and right.
The "new and terrible" Flames are now built around Frank Malovlich, Andrej Meszaros and in goal..... Nikolai Khabibulin. How the Fuck did this happen!!!!!
Sure he also has Cam Fowler but i'm sure he will trade him soon, since he seems to like to trade every good thing that was on this team.
ANYWAY, back to the point. About 17 seasons ago the Maple Leafs were under the control of at the time the worst NHL General Manager, John Ferguson Jr. FLASH FORWARD back to present day and John Ferguson JR looks like a Ken Holland, or a Brian Burke compared to allabouthockey.
It seems as if we have a "second coming" on our hands. (No, Jesus is not back!) We seem to have a second-coming of John Ferguson Jr, but with a mix of Harold Ballard, Glen Sather and Bob Gainey in there as well.
We will see how allabouthockey builds his team. Maybe, just maybe he has a plan, or maybe he has a different strategy then everyone else in the world, well the history of the world, on how to build a good hockey team.
