Today on the Sloppy Second I'm going to give you the perfct formula to fixing the NHL All-Star Game and also some things to make the Skills Competition a little more "fun" for the fans and enjoyable for the Players themselves.
First let's start with the All-Star Game itself, many fans don't wath the game at all, and more and more players are ducking it due to injures, here's some tips to the NHL to make the Players start going and to help fans come back to the Game.
- First Idea Move the All-Star game to the end of the playoffs and before all of the off-season stuff. Now this will save the league the 1 week layoff moving the season and playoffs ahead by one week, so why not have the All-Star game on June 11th, which is currently the final day possible for the playoffs, but without the 1 week break that date would be moved about 5 days earlier to June 6th with the All-Star Game 5 days later, it's just in time for the fans to settle down and then boom it's the All-Star game and then the draft.
- Second spice the game up again, no more of thsi East vs West crap go back to North America vs World, or try something new something like... Canada vs Plant USA which would feature the best from Canada vs the best from the rest of the world.
- and Third, I know it's a All-Star GAME but it's too much like a regular eason game IMO which might drive some fans away from it, because it gets boring. Make it more exciting and make it mean something. Get the sponsers and get 5 million of the sponser money, put that up for grabs, the winning team gets the 5 million splits it among the players and coaching staff and it goes to their favourite charity or possibly change it into a skinny type game. Have icings and off-sides but when a goal is scored, just keep on going. It creates for faster paced action and more excitment.
- And Finally, Enough with the Fan Starting Line-up vote, i'm sorry but there is no way the starting line-ups should be the way they are. They are making a disgrace out of the game. A real allstar lineup is Crosby Ovechkin and Malkin, no way Kovalev should be in there ahead of Ovie. And What The Fuck is Kopmisarek doing starting on the back-end? he's a good D-man no doubt but not top 2 in the East. It's stupid let the fans vote for something other than the line-ups i mean last year- Rory Fitzpatrick and this year Habs Starting Line-up? Gotta be kidding. Oh and just a idea let the fans choose where it's gonna be, now this could b open to bring it back to winnipeg, or quebec city places like this. Fuck fans voting for the starting line-up
And Now for the fun part, My idea's for the Skills Competition.
- First Off we need to make it more fun. I mean the fastest skarter competition? boring! Here's my thoughts on every competition and how to make it a bit more enjoyable.
Fastest Skater- 2 words "Skate Guards", put skate guards on the skaters, have them all go and see who can make it around the ice the quickest while slipping and flopping all around. While probably never happen due to the "slighty" risk of injury
Hardest Shot- Is the quickest event there, i mean don't blink or you'll miss it. Make it a bit more "laughable" have the normal hardest shot competition but then after the winner for the hardest shot competition is awarded, bring out the same shooters(or different, doesn't matter) and have a Hardest Knobshot, turn your sticks around and weel base it on the quickest to get it in the net(or closest to..) from the hashmarks.
Trick Shootout- No Problems with it, But give the players 10 shots no time limit to them to show there stuff and then the fans vote the winner like tonight
Elimination Shootout- Hey instead of "you miss, you out" have something like "you score, your out" It's truely more enjoyable to watch players not score for a long period of time than to score for periods of time, and plus since this is the last event at the competition, and the players do want to get out of there, it will make them try and score and pull of there better decks and shots.
The Bottom line of this article is to give some ideas on how to improve All-Star weekend and how to make it more enjoyable for everyone.
And well the All-Star Game is truely a Sloppy Second
