Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom are being suspended 1 game for skipping the all-star. What do you guys think about this? I think this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. If I were either of them, I wouldn't want to go to the All-Star game because of what it has turned into, also because it is in Montreal www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/01/23/All-Star-No-Shows-0/

Absolutely rediculous.
The All Star game is a joke and I know I'd rahter spend time off then going to it. Once Bettman allowed the fans to vote for the starting lineup and made the rule that there has to be atleast 1 player from each team, its turned into a big joke.

The All-Star Game is just for fun. Everyones having fun the players are not actually hitting each other or anything. Star players have the right to choose if they want to go to the All-Star Game, Or Stay home and rest.

I believe that the suspension is the right move. all they had to do was show up to the off ice events and every thing would have been fine, just like Crosby, however they just elected to not even show up. IMO it is a big let down for the fans. those are 2 of the best players in the West and the fans deserve to see them play in the all-star game. I also think that if they were voted to the starting line up by the fans and did not show up, the suspension should be an extra game. This "new" NHL is all about entertaining the fans, thats what the players get paid to do, so do your job!

Crosby is a bitch and that is why he went, because he didn't want to get suspended. The NHL didn't give the opition for everyone to show up or get suspended. Crosby didn't want to get suspended so he asked if showing up would get him out of trouble.

O.K. and now we look at the results for the teams after the all star break. Detoit lost to Columbus and Pittsurgh beat the Rangers. Maybe Datsyuk and Lidstrom should have followed in Crosbys footsteps, took the INITIATIVE to show up to the festivities, and played in their game against Columbus. This just goes to show you that if you puss out it not only hurts you but your team as well.

Nobodies fault but their own, they could have played, they could have joined everyone else, but they decided not to.
It's their fault, they did something selfish and there are consequences for your actions and that's the price.
I liked the call, good for Bettman to finally do something good.
Plus the all-star weekend was great without them.

Detoit lost to Columbus and Pittsurgh beat the Rangers. Also in that game Crosby put up 3 points. So going to the All-star game was a good choice by Crosby IMO

He didn't play because he didn't want to. He wasn't hurt, as you can see.

He can't play in a non-contact All-Star game but he is fine a few days later? If he was hurt, I don't think he'd play against the Rangers.
