0-5-1 in their last six games, rumors are beginning to swirl around the Pittsburgh Penguins. Although the GM maintains none of his elite talent will be moving, he continues to tinker with his bottom six forwards and bottom four defenseman, and I am now hearing whispers of a potential deal with a Southeast Division team involving the recently acquired Kyle Wellwood and young defender Karl Alzner.
But a new rumor has surfaced. One that leads all the way back to the beginning of Season 9. Upon the Penguins' acquisition of Pavel Bure from the Minnesota Wild, he bought a house in the 'burgh with his secret wife, Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova. Though he managed to keep his relationship out of the public's knowledge, when fellow Russian Ilya Kovalchuk found out about this, needless to say, he wanted a piece of the action himself, if ya catch my drift.
At a pre-season barbeque at the home of General Manager Hockeyfan101, Ilya reportedly engaged in some less than appropriate activities with Sharapova in the sauna. Upon discovery of this, Pavel flipped out, and went on to score 2 points in his first 10 games of the season before being shipped off to the New York Islanders. The team went on a long streak soon after, and Maria stayed in Pittsburgh and moved in with Kovalchuk, a possible explanation for his interesting goal-scoring pattern. "When he scores, he scores in games too." explained Sergei Gonchar. "When Maria's at tournaments, etc., he's invisible out there."
Now rumours have surfaced that while Maria was off the Australian Open, at a team barbecue at the home of Milan Lucic, Ilya once again took his Russian charm to the sauna and this time reeled in the girlfriend of defenseman Karl Alzner. Alzner, needless to say, asked out of Pittsburgh immediately, which leads me back to my original rumor. Him and Wellfed, both off to enjoy their women without worry and eat as many cheeseburgers as they wish...well, okay, that part was just for Wellwood.
