In this addition of Under The Spotlight - Facing the Media, I had a chance to sit down with the Canes' GM Hemskyfan. Hope you enjoy.
Q - You're a new GM here, when you first saw your roster, what went through you're mind?
A -When I first saw my roster I thought O know what happened to carolina. I saw i had some talent in places but compared to other teams it didnt look to good.
Q - Bascially the second day on the job, you went out and traded away Jonathan Quick for your new starting goalie Tomas Voukoun. Do you think that deal helped you?
A - I think this deal helped big time. Since I got Vokoun I have well above .500 and in a great playoff spot.
Q - Before the season started, people thought that your team would be one of those teams selling their best players for draft picks. You're currently 6th place in the Eastern Conference. With two very strong teams right behind you, do you think you can hold that 6th spot?
A - I beleive if my team continues the way there playing (resently beating powerhouse pitt 8-3) we will be able to hold that spot and maybe win the division.
Q - You're team lacks a franchise guy to truely lead you're team to contend for the cup. What do you plan to do about that?
A - If my team continues there play I dont think I will be changing anything but that being said I may be after a player that is a Mike Richards type of guy or maybe a third line leader. But for now my team is staying as is.
Q - Who do you think you're most underrated player is and why?
A - LW Jan Hlavac PLY 80 is my most underrated player becuase of the fact that he is scoring goals left right and center. Hlavac seems to get atleast 1-2 goals every 3-4 games and a point per game so right now I would have to say he is my most underrated player
Q - Horcoff is currently your team's go to guy. Do you think he'll be able to live up to the Canes execptations?
A - I think Horcoff will. Along with Havlat the two of them, I beleive will be able to carry my team into the playoffs and hopefully deep
