On our first episode of Under The Spotlight- Facing the Media, I interview Wynne, the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it.
Q - Your team recently have not played to their full potential. You recently made tons of moves, how to you feel about your newer team compared to the last?
A - I feel pretty confident with this newly built team. Last season's team was very strong, but I am hoping this season's team can gel and get back to where we were last season.
Q - A couple seasons ago, you made a switch to come into arguably the best division in the league, do you regret this decision?
A - I don't regret a thing. A change in scenery is what was needed for me. I feel the competition in this division is a lot more intense then it was in the Northwest, which I really enjoy.
Q - In a new conference, you have made new rivalries. Who has been your biggest rival since you became the Flyer's GM?
A - Biggest rival would have to be the New Jersey Devils. With all the regular season match-ups and the few times we have met in the playoffs, I consider us fairly big rivals.
Q - You currently have arguably the best winger and goalie in the league. With your team not playing to their full potential lately, are you losing fate in these players?
A - I am not losing any fate in either Luongo or Ovechkin. I don't believe either are to blame for this slow start. Ovechkin has shown up game in and game out, leading this team in points and assists. I also never like to put the blame on the goalie, it's the players in front of him that need to help him out.
Q - If you have the same team at the trade deadline, and your out of the playoffs, what type of player do you go after to get your team on the right track?
A - My main focus would be to acquire a big name defenseman. I think that is what is currently lacking on this team. I believe if I can bring a Dan Boyle or Scott Niedermayer type player into this organization, things might change.
Q - Being one of the original GMs in this league, you've seen everything that has happened first hand. What is the biggest thing you miss that is no longer here and what is the biggest thing you like that is 'newer' in this league?
A - The biggest thing I miss would have to be the Rookie Draft, hands down.
Not really a "newer" thing here, but I really like how active everybody is. We don't see too many teams that are constantly under new management. I really like the crop we have here.
Q - Is there a team in this league that you just want to kill every time you play them?
A - One team I would love to kill everytime we play would have to be the Dallas Stars. He seems pretty cocky and nice blowout wins against him would be awesome
Thank you all for reading my very first article, and a big thanks to Philly for doing this. I hope you enjoyed
