Got bored, so I'm going to start a new one and keep it updated here.
As the title says, I'll be starting with the Leafs, and I'm going to try and keep it realistic. Cap is on, injuries off.
Fresh off signing a 3 year contract with the club, the boss tells me he is looking for 42 wins this season. Should, and hopefully will be able to hit 42.
Before we head into the pre-season, I place Matthew Lombardi on the block. Don't have a spot for him, and his $3.5M salary is something I'd like to move.
I take a look at every team's blocks, and see a few interesting pieces on the block. Carolina has Eric Staal and Phoenix has Martin Hanzal. Not totally unrealistic, but not totally realistic at the same time for either, but I may try for one after a couple of pre-season games.
Looking through free agents, I see a player that catches my eye, Justin Schultz. We offer him a 3 year deal worth 925k per season, and have Jake Gardiner give him a call.
In the meantime, we make a trade with the Colorado Avalanche. We send them Jay Rosehill in return for a 6th round pick in the 2012 draft.
We wrap up the pre-season with a 4-3 loss to Ottawa, finishing with a 2-1-1 record, and also get some good news as Justin Schultz has signed.
To start the season, we are going to have Gardiner and Schultz with the Marlies. We will open the season with this lineup;
Joffrey Lupul - Tim Connolly - Phil Kessel Clarke MacArthur - Mikhail Grabovski - Nikolai Kulemin Matt Frattin - Tyler Bozak - Colby Armstrong Joey Crabb - David Steckel - Mike Brown
Dion Phaneuf - Luke Schenn John-Michael Liles - Cody Franson Carl Gunnarsson - Mike Komisarek
James Reimer Jonas Gustavsson
Matthew Lombardi is the 13th forward. We are going to see how things go after a month, and maybe make some changes.
After October, we sit with a 5-4-2 record. Not very impressive. We see NY has Brandon Dubinsky on the trade block, we might make a pitch for him.
We send an offer of Matthew Lombardi, Colby Armstrong and a 2013 2nd round draft pick for Brandon Dubinsky, and the Rangers like the deal and accept. We get a solid player and free up some cap space.
Heading into November, we have a lineup that looks like this;
Lupul - Dubinsky - Kessel MacArthur - Grabovski - Kulemin Frattin - Bozak - Connolly Crabb - Steckel - Brown
Phaneuf - Franson Liles - Schenn Gunnarsson - Komisarek
Reimer Gustavsson
The Marlies went 7-2-0 in October, hopefully the big club can follow suit in November.

We start off November really good, winning our first 4 games, but then struggle a little. Part way through, Nashville places Mike Fisher on waivers, we definitely claim him. He will slot into the 3rd line center spot, moving Bozak to the left side, and Frattin to 4th line LW, meaning Joey Crabb is the 13th forward now.
After his acquisition, we place Tim Connolly on the trade block.
We finish November and now sit with a 16-7-2 record, much improved. The Marlies sit with a 17-5-0 record. With the recent play, no changes are made.
We start December with 5 straight losses, and the offence has seemed to dry up a little. We are going to shake the lines up.
Lupul - Grabovski - Kessel Dubinsky - Connolly - MacArthur Kulemin - Fisher - Bozak Frattin - Steckel - Brown
Phaneuf - Liles Franson - Schenn Gunnarsson - Komisarek
Reimer Gustavsson
After another 2 losses, we let Gustavsson run with it for a bit. He ends up going 4-1-1 to finish the month, so we'll keep him in to start January. Heading into January, we are 20-14-4, and the Marlies are 25-10-0.
After going 3-3 to start January, we give Reimer the starting job back, hoping he can get hot.
Kessel and Phaneuf represent us at the All-Star game, in which Team Red tops Team Blue, winning 6-3. Kessel is named the 1st star, collecting 2 goals. 2nd star and 3rd star went to Marian Gaborik and Sidney Crosby, respectively.
January was less than impressive, now sitting with a record of 25-17-8. Marlies sit at 29-14-2.
Before we get February started, we throw a few trade offers out.
Phoenix has Shane Doan on the block, so I offer Tim Connolly, Sondre Olden, and a 2014 4th round draft pick, with no luck. Might try for him again at the deadline.
Trade deadline is finally here. We update our block, having Tim Connolly, Mike Komisarek and David Steckel on it.
We head into the trade deadline with a 30-23-9, so we are looking to buy.
No calls in the first hour, but we give Ottawa a call, and offer them Tim Connolly for Colin Greening and a 2012 5th. They aren't looking for veterans, so they reject.
3 hours remaining, TB calling.
Carter Ashton, Mike Komisarek, Mike Brown for Dwayne Roloson, Ryan Shannon, Mike Kostka, and Brendan Mikkelson. Zero incentive for us here, minus dumping Komisarek, so I say no, but send a counter.
Tim Connolly, Mike Komisarek, David Steckel for Brett Connolly and Cory Conachar. Tried to screw them, and surprisingly, they said no.
Chicago calling; David Steckel for Sami Lepisto, Alexander Salak. No thanks, but I counter with Tim Connolly, David Steckel for Brandon Saad, Niklas Hjalmarsson, and they accept. Next move is to get rid of Komisarek.
1 hour left, Carolina and Colorado are calling.
Carolina; James Reimer, Philippe Dupuis for Kim Johnsson, Brian Boucher. I wish I had a fuck off option.
Colorado; Luke Schenn, Colton Orr for Steve Downie, Jay McClement. Decent offer, but Schenn isn't leaving. Counter offer is Mike Komisarek, Colton Orr and a 2012 2nd (BOS's) for David Jones and Jamie McGinn. They like the counter, and accept.
Boston and Calgary made a trade. Boston sent Marc Savard, Dan Paille and a 2012 5th to Calgary for Mikael Backlund and Brett Carson. Feaster said fuck a rebuild.
2pm rolls around, and Winnipeg and Chicago are calling looking for last minute deals.
Winnipeg; Brandon Dubinsky, Mike Brown, Jeff Finger for WIN's 1st in 2012 and 2013. That's really intriguing, but Dubinsky isn't going anywhere. I counter with MacArthur instead of Dubinsky and they accept it. Tough to lose MacArthur, but the 2 1st's are nice.
Chicago; Luke Schenn for Corey Crawford, Brett Connelly, 2012 1st. A nice offer, but Schenn isn't moving, so no deal.
And that's the deadline. We now have a lineup comprised of;
Joffrey Lupul - Brandon Dubinsky - Phil Kessel Nikolai Kulemin - Mikhail Grabovski - David Jones Nazem Kadri - Tyler Bozak - Matt Frattin Jamie McGinn - Mike Fisher - Joey Crabb
Dion Phaneuf - John-Michael Liles Niklas Hjalmarsson - Luke Schenn Carl Gunnarsson - Cody Franson
James Reimer Jonas Gustavsson
I guess we did more selling than buying, but I like the makeup of this team headed forward, especially with the extra picks.
We finish off February, and now sit with a 31-24-9 record. Marlies are 39-16-2.

March ended up being an okay month, as we sit with a record of 39-29-11. We currently sit 9th in the East, 1 point back of Winnipeg, with 3 games remaining. The Marlies sit 1st in the AHL, with a 45-20-5 record.
We come out on top against Buffalo, and now sit 7th with 2 games remaining. We are 1 point up on Boston and Winnipeg, and 2 points behind New Jersey for 6th. We lose a big game to Tampa, and drop to 8th. Winnipeg sits 7th with 92 points, we are in 8th with 91 points, Boston is 9th with 90 points, and Tampa is 10th with 89 points. We need to beat Montreal and secure our spot.
We end up losing to Montreal, 3-2, and now wait to see how Boston and Tampa do. Both Boston and Tampa Bay won their games, and moved ahead of us, and Boston got 8th place, very disappointing finish to the season. We finish with a 40-31-11 record, 2 wins shy of what the boss wanted.
The big positive was the Marlies, finishing with a 49-21-6 record. They played Charlotte in the 1st round, and after jumping out to a 3-0 series lead, lose 4 straight and are eliminated in round 1. Had it been the real AHL format, it would have been done in 3 -_-
So this season turned out to be a pretty big disappointment, we'll be looking for some changes over the off-season.
Pittsburgh ended up defeating San Jose in 5 games to win the cup, and the Abbotsford Heat won the Calder Cup.
Notable retirees; Selanne, Smyth, Alfredsson, Pronger, Giguere, Brodeur, Roloson.
Heading into the draft, our scout gives a short list that includes; RW Eric Ming D Napessis Andre C Ryan Rupert RW Simon Tardif-Richard D Luke Fenske
But there is a certain player I really want, and will need to acquire a top 5 pick to get him, Alex Galchenyuk.
Heading into the draft, we put Mike Fisher and Carl Gunnarsson on the block.
We hold the 13th and 19th pick in the draft, while Ottawa holds #1. We are going to try and swing a deal with Anaheim or Minnesota to get the 4th or 5th.
Anaheim is calling us; Dubinsky for Beauchemin, Lydman. Don't need either, but I do want their pick. I counter with Hjalmarsson for their 1st and they accept. He was expendable with Gardiner and Schultz ready to make the jump up next season.
Got another call, from NJ; Dubinsky for Zidlicky. Doesn't help me much, but I send a counter of Mike Fisher for Adam Henrique, but they don't want the extra salary and decline.
Ottawa is calling. Phaneuf for Phillips, Neil. A big fuck you, give me your 1st. I counter with Mike Fisher for Colin Greening and they accept.
I really thought the 4th would be good enough to get Alex Galchenyuk, but it wasn't. Yakupov went #1, Galchenyuk went #2, followed by Murray at #3. I will take Mikhail Grigorenko with the #4 pick. With the #13 pick, we take Brendan Gaunce, and with our 19th, we go a little off the board and select Alex Gudbranson.
2nd round, and we have 3 calls. Colorado, Chicago, Florida.
Colorado; Dubinsky for Hejda, O'Byrne. I don't remember saying I need/want defense :/
Chicago; Jake Gardiner for Tim Connolly, Corey Crawford. Lol, good one.
Florida; Dubinsky for Campbell, Smithson. No thanks, how about Shawn Matthias for Mark Fraser? Deal, good.
With our 2nd round pick, we select Morgan Rielly.
3 more calls before round 3, Vancouver, Carolina and Ottawa.
Vancouver; Dubinsky for Hamhuis, Lapierre. -_- Counter; Carl Gunnarsson, 2013 1st for Cory Schneider, they are happy with that and accept.
Carolina; Dubinsky for Gleason, LaRose. God no, especially after stealing Galchenyuk from me.
Ottawa; Phaneuf for Phillips, Smith. Counter David Broll for Matt Puempel, no dice.
No pick in round 3, no calls before round 3, no pick in round 4, no calls before round 5.
With our 5th round pick, we select Cody Ceci.
No calls before round 6, in which we have 3 picks. We select Eric Locke, Michael Schumacher and Malcolm Subban.
No calls in round 7, and with our final pick, we select a big 6'8 Russian defenseman Oleg Kostitsyn.
The draft is now complete, I think we had a very good draft.
Leading up to July 1st, we have about 19M in cap space. Notables we need to decide what to do with include Cory Schneider, Jonas Gustavsson, Cody Franson, Nikolai Kulemin, and David Jones.
We let the following players walk; G Jonas Gustavsson D Matt Lashoff RW Richard Greenop C Philippe Dupuis
We get Schneider, Scrivens, Kulemin, Franson, Jones, Frattin, McGinn and 6 others locked up.
It's now July 1st, and we have just over 12M to play with. We don't have too many holes to fill, but we'll see what's out there. Our lineup currently looks like this;
Lupul - XXX - Kessel Dubinsky - Grabovski - Kulemin Greening - Bozak - Jones Ashton - Matthias - Frattin McGinn, Crabb
Phaneuf - Franson Liles - Schenn Gardiner - Schultz
Schneider Reimer
We will see what free agency holds, but we might end up signing Mikhail Grigorenko and slotting him into the #1 center role.
We need to sign around 3-4 defensemen and 3-4 forwards for the Marlies.
The free agent market is pretty bare for our needs, but does include Lidstrom, Brad Stuart, Doan, Semin, Jagr, Jokinen to name a few. A player that did catch my eye was Mikael Granlund, I will throw an offer his way.
We send out offers to fill the open spots on the Marlies; C Mikael Granlund - 3 Years C Mathieu Perreault - 2 Years LW Jakob Silfverberg - 3 Years C Oscar Moller - 3 Years D Ty Wishart - 2 Years D Justin Braun - 2 Years D Johan Motin - 3 Years
To make a little room, we trade Andrew Crescenzi and Greg Scott to Anaheim for a 2013 7th rounder.
We then sign Mikhail Grigorenko to a 3 year entry level contract.
Granlund decided to sign with a different team, but we signed Braun, Perreault, Wishart, Moller, Silfverberg, and Motin.
We now sit with 46 contracts, but are looking to sign 3 more players for the AHL, 2 forwards and 1 defenseman. We end up signing Stephane Da Costa, Teemu Pulkkinen and Jordan Henry. Unless something comes up, this is the roster we will start with.
The boss is looking for 43 wins this season, which we should definitely be getting.
Joffrey Lupul - Mikhail Grigorenko - Phil Kessel Brandon Dubinsky - Mikhail Grabovski - Nikolai Kulemin Colin Greening - Tyler Bozak - David Jones Carter Ashton - Shawn Matthias - Matt Frattin
Dion Phaneuf - Cody Franson John-Michael Liles - Luke Schenn Jake Gardiner - Justin Schultz
Cory Schneider James Reimer
That is the lineup I am going to start with.
We go 3-1-0 in the preseason, and are ready for the regular season. The boss is expecting playoffs this season.

A month into season 2, we are sitting pretty, with a 10-4-0 record. The same can't be said for the Marlies, who currently hold a 4-5-0 record. Mikhail Grigorenko has been right on track, collecting 10 points in his first 14 games.
A very bad November now has us sitting at 14-10-3. Very disappointing after a strong start, time to shuffle the lines. I'm putting Dubinsky back up with Lupul and Kessel, and having Girgorenko on the 2nd line with Grabovski and Kulemin.
Another meh month, and we sit 19-14-6. The Marlies have turned it around and are now 19-11-2. We only have 10 games in January, and 6 are at home, we gotta have a good month.
Representing us at the All-Star game again are Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf. Team Blue came out on top, winning 5-4 in OT. 1st star went to Stamkos, 2nd to Vanek, and 3rd to Burns.
We had a fairly good month, and sit with a 26-17-6 record. Marlies now sit at 24-18-2.
Half way through February I shuffle the lines, hoping to find some winning consistency. It didn't work as we lost 4 in a row. The latest tweak in the lines has seemed to work, and after February we have a 32-24-8 record. After 2 games, we are at the deadline. I'm looking to acquire a goal scorer up front.
No calls in the first hour, but I call Carolina and offer them Joey Crabb for a 2013 4th, and they accept.
We've got 2 calls in the second hour, Tampa and Dallas.
Dallas; Brandon Dubinsky for Michael Ryder, Krys Barch. Dubinsky isn't leaving.
Tampa; Brandon Dubinsky for Teddy Purcell, Mathieu Garon. Why does everyone want Dubinsky? I counter with a 4th line center swap, Shawn Matthias for Nate Thompson, but they decline.
4 callers with 2 hours remaining. Philly, Nashville, Dallas and Minnesota.
Philly; Brandon Dubinsky for Tom Sestito, 2013 1st, 2014 1st. As nice as the picks would be, I'm not selling. I do see that they have Kubina and Timonen both in the minors..
Nashville; Ty Wishart, Jamie McGinn for junk, no deal. I counter with Justin Braun for Craig Smith, they accept. Got my new 4th line center.
Dallas; Brandon Dubinsky for Steve Ott, 2013 1st. Really intriguing, but no.
Minnesota; Brandon Dubinsky, Jamie McGinn, Shawn Matthias for Matt Cullen, 2013 1st, 2013 1st. Ugh. Counter, Shawn Matthias for a 2015 3rd, no deal.
Next round of calls, I get a hell of an offer from Chicago, Dubinsky and Frattin for Sharp, but it really doesn't help me much. Another good offer, this time from NY, Callahan and Prust for Dubinsky, but I need a center, not a winger. I counter with Shawn Matthias for a 2014 4th, and they accept.
I got a bunch of offers, but none worth doing. After the deadline was over, Cory Sarich hit the waiver wire, so I claimed him for a 7th defenseman.
So headed down the stretch, we are rolling with these lines;
Lupul - Grigorenko - Kessel Kulemin - Grabovski - Jones Dubinsky - Bozak - Ashton Greening - Smith - Frattin
Phaneuf - Franson Liles - Schenn Gardiner - Schultz
Schneider Reimer

We didn't end up having too great of an March, and now are in must win situations. We have 7 games remaining in April, and have to win at least 6 of them. Continuing where we left off in March, we win 8 straight games, and clinch a playoff birth. We lose our final game, but are looking good heading into the playoffs. The Marlies finished with a 44-26-6 record.
We meet the 1st place Sabres in the first round. After taking both road games to start the series, we lose our first home game, but take game 4 and are now up 3-1, just need to finish them off. We lose both games 5 and 6, and this series goes to 7. A big game from Grabovski leads us past the Sabres 5-1, and we move onto the 2nd round, along with the Marlies who took their series in 5.
Our 2nd round matchup is against another Northeast powerhouse, Montreal Canadiens. A very surprising start on the road sends us back home up 2-0. We end up taking both home games and sweep the Habs. The second line of Kulemin-Grabovski-Jones has been huge this postseason. The Marlies defeated San Antonio in 6 games to move on to the Western Conference Finals where they will meet the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The Conference Finals are set, we will meet the Winnipeg Jets, while the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers square off in the West.
We drop both away games, and only take one of our home games, so we are down 3-1 headed back to the 'Peg. Game 5 is a blowout win for us, and we force a game 6 at home. Game 6 turns to be our final game, as we lose 3-0. The same night, the Marlies win game 7 and move on to face Adirondack in the Finals. Winnipeg faces Edmonton after they knocked out LA.
Adirondack was no match for the Marlies, taking them out in 5. Same story in the Cup Finals. Edmonton beat Winnipeg in 5 to win the Stanley Cup.
Notable retirees; Shane Doan, Sergei Gonchar, Kimmo Timonen, Nicklas Lidstrom, Todd Bertuzzi, Tim Thomas
Time to start thinking about next season. I wanna try and find a 2nd line winger, and make the defense bigger.
Before the draft I put Liles and Sarich on the trade block. Gardiner and Schultz will both be ready for bigger roles, making Liles expendable. Hopefully I can move him for a forward. Chicago has Patrick Sharp on the block, he may be an option.
San Jose calls in the 1st round of the draft, and offers Marleau for Liles and Wishart. That is a definite possibility, I will think about it and maybe get back to them.
NY Rangers also have interest in Liles, offering Callahan and Boyle. I really like both players, but don't have a spot for Boyle, and would rather a scorer for Liles.
We send an offer to Dallas, Cory Sairch for a 2013 2nd, but they aren't looking for vets.
2nd round and NY is calling again, with the same offer.
I also have a call from the Isles. Jake Gardiner, who has a cap hit of under 1M, for P.A. Parenteau and Rick DiPietro, a combined hit of nearly 10M..
I give SJ a call back and offer them Liles and Sarich for Marleau, but they decline.
San Jose calls again in round 3, this time offering Thornton and Tootoo for Dubinsky, Jones and McGinn. I counter with their original proposal of Liles, Wishart for Marleau, but they say no. I offer to throw in Sarich aswell, but they decline again. Time to look elsewhere.
Vancouver calls in round 5, offering Luongo for Dubinsky, I laugh.
In round 6, we call Chicago, and offer them John-Michael Liles and Oscar Moller for Patrick Sharp, and they accept.
We dump Cory Sarich in round 7, trading him to Montreal for a 2014 3rd round pick.
We make our final selections and that concludes the draft. We did want we wanted, and are happy.
Time to re-sign and let go of some players.
We let the following walk; G Jussi Rynnas D Jordan Henry D Simon Gysbers C Stephane Da Costa
And re-sign; Joffrey Lupul Tyler Bozak Colin Greening Craig Smith Nazem Kadri Nicolas Deschamps Juraj Mikus
And sign; Joshua Leivo Oleg Kostitsyn
Heading into free agency, our lineup looks like this;
Joffrey Lupul - Mikhail Grigorenko - Phil Kessel Patrick Sharp - Mikhail Grabovski - Nikolai Kulemin Brandon Dubinsky - Tyler Bozak - Carter Ashton Colin Greening - Craig Smith - Matt Frattin
Extras; David Jones, Nazem Kadri, Jamie McGinn
Dion Phaneuf - Luke Schenn Jake Gardiner - Cody Franson XXX - Justin Schultz
Cory Schneider James Reimer
I'll be looking to move David Jones and Colin Greening, as both seem expendable at this point. Kadri would take Greening's spot on the 4th line.
After a quick skim through the free agent pool, there's 2 players that catch my eye for that 3 pairing defense spot, Brad Stuart and Rob Scuderi. I will throw an offer Stuart's way, but Scuderi will be a backup plan. If I'm unable to land either, Anaheim has Hjalmarsson on the block, I may try to get him back.
After offering Stuart a 2 year deal, he accepts, and that pretty much makes me set. All that needs to be done before the season starts is sign a couple of depth players and move Jones and Greening.

Getting back into this.
First things first, trade Colin Greening and David Jones, as there is no spot for them on the roster. We offer Carolina the both of them for their 2014 1st, and they accept.
Now I need to some a couple depth players. I need to sign 1 goalie, 2 defensemen, and 2 forwards. After seeing the names available, I realize there are a few bone headed GMs. I send out a few offers, and then make 1 last trade. I trade Jerry D'Amigo to Anaheim in exchange for a 2014 6th to make some room.
A few days later, the free agents I sent offers out to get back to me.
G Ben Bishop - Accepted D David Savard - Accepted RW Mika Zibanejad - Accepted RW Cory Conacher - Accepted RW Ty Rattie - Accepted D Oscar Klefbom - Accepted
Silly CBJ, OTT, STL and EDM.
I am now ready to get this 3rd season under way.
Before we could get to the preseason, Minnesota sent an offer of Clayton Stoner and a 2014 6th for Juraj Mikus. I counter with Jonas Brodin instead of Stoner and they accepted.
So here is what we are starting the season with;
Joffrey Lupul - Mikhail Grigorenko - Phil Kessel Patrick Sharp - Mikhail Grabovski - Nikolai Kulemin Brandon Dubinsky - Tyler Bozak - Carter Ashton Jamie McGinn - Craig Smith - Matt Frattin
Dion Phaneuf - Luke Schenn Jake Gardiner - Cody Franson Brad Stuart - Justin Schultz
Cory Schneider James Reimer
Mika Zibanejad - Nazem Kadri - Ty Rattie Brandon Saad - Joe Colborne - Cory Conacher Marcel Mueller - Mathieu Perreault - Teemu Pulkkinen Nicolas Deschamps - Greg McKegg - Jakob Silfverberg
Denis Savard - Ty Wishart Korbinian Holzer - Jonas Brodin Oscar Klefbom - Jesse Blacker
Ben Scrivens Ben Bishop
I'm liking the make up of this team, both in the NHL and AHL. Should be a successful year.
We wrap up the pre-season with a 2-2-0 record. Boss wants 44 wins this year btw.

Out of the gate we are 9-5-0, and the Marlies are 4-7-0. Line changes for the Marlies are coming up, everything in the NHL stays for now.
Another decent month goes by and we sit with an 18-8-1 record. Marlies are at .500, 10-10-0. Unfortunately, I'm at the point where I like just about like all my players, so trades are going to be a rarity.
But just for the sake of trading, I make a trade with Colorado. I trade them TOR's 2014 1st, MIN's 2014 3rd for COL's 2014.
This team continues to stay inconsistent, finishing up December holding a 24-14-2 record. May look good, but when it's win, loss, win, loss and blowouts every other game, it's not good. Marlies keep getting better, not sitting 17-13-1.
A week into January, Columbus places Matt Cullen on waivers, and I claim him. After thinking the team had finally found it's stride, they prove me wrong and lose 5 straight.
All-Star break, and we have 3 reps. Phil Kessel, Joffrey Lupul and Jake Gardiner. I believe that is 3 straight years for Phil. Team Blue took this one, with MVP honours going to Pekka Rinne.
We are now in February, and are 31-19-3. Marlies are 24-19-1. After losing 6 straight, it's time for changes. Nikolai Kulemin is more than under achieving, so it may be his time to go. 21 points in 61 games from his is not good. I take a quick look at the trade block, but don't see much, might just move him down to the 3rd line and wait until the deadline.
We hit the deadline, time to make a couple moves and gear up for the playoffs.
We get an offer from Florida, no where near our liking, but counter with Matt Calvert for David Broll and they accepted. Hopefully Calvert brings a little offence to the Marlies.
A splash was made by Ottawa, picking up Ryan O'Reilly, Jay McClement and 2 others for Filatov, Gilroy and Gragnani. What was Colorado thinking..
For whatever reason, teams think I need a goalie, and I keep getting offer a goalie for Dubinsky +, I don't like this.
Colorado offered me Varlamov for Dubinsky, and I was wondering if they were still on the bath salts, so I countered, Kulemin for Landeskog, to no avail.
I throw St. Louis an offer; Kulemin, 2014 2nd for Chris Stewart, but they declined.
The Rangers called, trying to get Dubinsky back, but instead I stole their captain. I countered, Kulemin, 2nd 2014 for Callahan, and they accepted.
After the trade, I go to edit lines, and find out Matt Calvert is on a 1-way deal, that blows.
I also remembered I had Matt Cullen, so I traded him to TB for a 5th. I also thought it might be time to cut ties with Brad Stuart, who just wasn't helping much here. After a couple of tries, I preyed Ian White away from Detroit for Brad Stuart, Ty Wishart and a 2014 3rd. Heart and soul guy, glad he's back in blue and white.
That concluded the deadline. We'll see how this team does down the stretch.
Lupul - Grabovski - Kessel Sharp - Dubinsky - Callahan Grigorenko - Bozak - Ashton McGinn - Smith - Frattin
Phaneuf - Schenn Gardiner - Franson White - Schultz

Finished the season 47-31-4, good for 5th in the East and a matchup against Buffalo. Marlies finished with a 42-30-4 record.
Ended up losing in 7 to Buffalo. Boss said he wasn't impressed, and neither am I. Marlies moved on to round 2, to take on Peoria. They lost in 6, and this turned out to be a disappointed year. I think changes will be happening this off season.
Norfolk defeated Grand Rapids to win the Calder, and Buffalo ended up beating Detroit to win the cup.
My contract was up, so I need a new deal. I signed a 3 year extension with the Leafs. Boss wants 47 wins next season.
Notable retirements; Mike Fisher, Zdeno Chara, Marc Savard, Scott Gomez, Jaromir Jagr, Tomas Vokoun
Heading into the draft, I put Grabovski, Ashton and McGinn on the trade block. Because of that trade I made way back when with Colorado, I own the 3rd overall pick, aswell as the 9th overall pick.
Before we get to drafting, I need to try for a few trades.
I first send an offer St. Louis' way; Cody Franson, Jamie McGinn for Kevin Shattenkirk, David Shields, and they accept. It's the start of a little shake-up.
My scout wasn't lying when he said the draft was going to be weak, we have the 3rd overall pick, and the top players are shit.
Desperate times, call for desperate measures. Hate doing it, but a change was needed. I sent Garth Snow and Charles Wang a blockbuster offer, Luke Schenn and Mikhail Grabovski for John Tavares and Ryan Strome, and they accepted. This trade was made possible because of the Shattenkirk acquisition.
That was all for the draft. I think it was a successful one. More moves are yet to come.
We've hit the re-signing phase. We've got quite a few free agents;
G Ben Bishop G Ben Scrivens G James Reimer D Dion Phaneuf D Korbinian Holzer D Justin Schultz D Jake Gardiner D Jesse Blacker D David Shields RW Ryan Callahan RW Phil Kessel RW Matt Frattin RW Carter Ashton LW Ryan Hamilton LW Marcel Mueller LW Matt Calvert LW Jamie Devane C Mathieu Perreault C Craig Smith C Joe Colborne
From that list, we are going to let Bishop, Scrivens, Shields, Hamilton, Devane, Mueller and Perreault walk.
We are sending tender offers to Reimer, Holzer, Schultz, Gardiner, Ashton, Smith and Colborne. Smith, Holzer and Ashton don't really have a spot on this team, so I don't plan on signing any of them. If they end up accepting the qualifying offer, they will get traded. I'm sending offers to the rest.
I get Kessel, Phaneuf, Gardiner, Callahan, Colborne, Schultz and Blacker locked up no problem. Reimer is asking for a little more than I want to pay him, so I'm going to hold out on him for a bit.
I end up signing Ashton for cheap, but he will be moved, and also sign Frattin.
That leaves Holzer, Calvert, Smith and Reimer, all tendered.
As for lines;
Joffrey Lupul - John Tavares - Phil Kessel Patrick Sharp - Brandon Dubinsky - Ryan Callahan Nazem Kadri - Joe Colborne - Mikhail Grigorenko XXX - Tyler Bozak - Matt Frattin
Ex. Carter Ashton, Matt Calvert (RFA), Craig Smith (RFA)
Calvert may end up taking the 4th line wing spot, depending on what I see in FA.
Dion Phaneuf - Kevin Shattenkirk Jake Gardiner - Justin Schultz XXX - Ian White
Ex. Korbinian Holzer (RFA), David Savard
Savard may get that spot, depends what free agents are available.
Cory Schneider XXX
Ex. James Reimer (RFA)
When it comes to prospects, I'm going to sign a few guy to play in the AHL. Morgan Rielly, Brendan Gaunce, Eric Locke and Malcolm Subban.
AHL
Saad - Strome - Zibanejad Rattie - Gaunce - Conacher Ross - McKegg - Pulkkinen Leivo - Locke - XXX
Ex. Deschamps, Silfverberg
Rielly - Blacker Brodin - Klefbom Motin - Percy
Ex. Kostitsyn
Malcolm Subban XXX
I will be moving Deschamps, Silfverberg and possibly Pulkkinen on July 1st. Then I will be looking for around 5 forwards, 1-2 defensemen, and 1 goaltender for the AHL, along with a possible 4th line winger.
First thing done on July 1st was to trade Deschamps and Silfverberg to Minnesota for a 4th. Next up was moving Pulkkinen to Nashville for a 5th.
I sent out 9 offers and signed the following;
G Garret Sparks RW Maxime Levesque D Alex Gudbranson RW Matt Read RW Daniel Mannberg C Zac Dalpe D Cody Ceci C Ryan Rupert D Mattias Backman
I originally had Sparks, Gudbranson and Ceci, but never signed them, and apparently lost them.
Because of numbers, I shipped out 3 unsigned prospects along with Johan Motin to Anaheim for a 5th.
I then dealt Craig Smith and Korbinian Holzer to the Habs for a 2nd.
I then signed Matt Calvert. He will serve as the 13th forward to start the year, but with battle with Matt Read for the 12th spot.
After a long wait, I finally signed James Reimer.
Now then, we are just about ready for Season 4.
Joffrey Lupul - John Tavares - Phil Kessel Patrick Sharp - Brandon Dubinsky - Ryan Callahan Nazem Kadri - Joe Colborne - Mikhail Grigorenko Matt Read - Tyler Bozak - Matt Frattin Matt Calvert
Dion Phaneuf - Kevin Shattenkirk Jake Gardiner - Justin Schultz David Savard - Ian White

Morgan Rielly - Jess Blacker Mattias Backman - Oscar Klefbom Jonas Brodin - Alex Gudbranson Stuart Percy, Oleg Kostitsyn, Cody Ceci

Last thing that needed to be done was trade Carter Ashton. He was traded to Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2nd.
