Just curious if you are satisfied with what you team did on the first day of UFA.
I'm very happy with Volchenkov and his nice 4.25 hit. I'm okay with Tallinder, better than White and Salvador and will be a great mentor to Urbom/Burlon/Corrente/Eckford. Also like the Hedberg signing, means Marty will finally play less games.

Happy the Leafs signed Armstrong. A bit overpaid, but that's what happens in Free Agency and it's not outrageous. About as good as we could have hoped for, given the lack of Top 6 forwards on the market this year.
Also like the Versteeg trade yesterday, and that Burke still has the Kaberle card to play. The offers for him should improve now that all the top UFA d-men are off the market, and none went to any of the teams that were rumoured to be seriously interested in Kaberle before (maybe the Pens, but that's it).

I'm happy with the Armstrong signing. I don't think he is overpaid, he'll bring some much added grit to this team.

Armstrong was laughing to the bank when he signed in Toronto. He's a 3rd liner making 3M per season. Versteeg is a top 6 guy, making a tad over 3M. Worth it? I don't think so. But hey, its ok, I cant stand the leafs, so it's all good by me.
Auld @ 1M... Ok, not overpaid, although they could've gotten a better guy IMO Boyd @ 650K... Good signing for a 3rd line (Note to Leafs: This what a 3rd liner makes, not 3M.) So far...bah. Just don't lose Metropolit, Habs!

I was alittle nervous when Gonchar left but I am happy with the replacements. We needed some defensemen that could move the puck and still take there man. Gonchar was great on the powerplay but way to soft in his own end. Hopefully now they will just play Crosby with Malkin and forget the dance of trying to find a winger. I think Malkin Crosby and Kunitz would be fine. Then give Staal the ice time he deserves with Dupuis and Cooke.

Agreed, I was concerned when Gonchar left but the additions of Martin and Michalek are solid. Still hoping Shero can grab a solid winger for cheap, someone like Kariya, Stempniak or Afinogenov would be awesome and hopefully wouldn't make us break the bank.

Boyd @ 650K > Armstrong @ 3M Boyd doesn't cap-fuck us in any way, and he knows his role. What did he have last year, 24 pts? Armstrong had 30. 6 PTS = 2.35M more? Sure he hits more, big deal, so does a grinder/pwf at 500k. Armstrong will end up at least on the 2nd line since Leaf fowards blow more than a 2 cent whore, and who knows, maybe he'll do well, or maybe his ego will overinflate and explode. I'm hoping for option #2.

I am real happy with having Gonchar on the sens but am not a fan of the contract length. I could see 5.5mil for 2 seasons but not 3. A little overpaid but he will be the best dman Ottawa has ever had (except maybe Chara.) I am excited to see him on our powerplay. The loss of the A-Train really hurts but Murray said it best yesterday "We know he is great defensively and blocks a lot of shots but we want the other team to be blocking the shots and the way you do that is with possession of the puck." Gonchar will be great for Spezza and hopefully push Kovalev to work hard in EVERY game.

I am also still interested to see if Murray swings a deal for another Centre now that we lost Cullen. Maybe Kuba, Foligno and something for Savard? We are overloaded on D now so we can safely trade one + a little something else for a 2nd-3rd line Centre.

You left out the parts that involved the HasBeens trading away the goalie that carried them to through the playoffs for a bunch of nobodies and the fact that they traded S Kostitsyn for Boyd as Ellis was smart enough to get away from them. All in all Leafs got what they needed without overpaying and Habs continue on their backwards roll down the hill. PS - Haters are usually haters becuase they are jealous over what they can't have. ;D

Meh, liked the Versteeg trade, I don't really give two shits about Armstrong, glad Kuli re-signed.
I don't like that we traded Stalberg, kid has wheels and could be very good. Paradis I don't know much about, and DiDomenico was a project prospect and when he broke his leg last year it set his development back.

On another note, some really surprising signings. Didn't expect A-Train to sign with Jersey, very good fit for them, and a beauty of a cap hit also. Also didn't expect Gonchar in Ottawa.
