1st is a bit too much IMO, that'll be an 81 player at least, so it totals out to an 81 and 79 for 83 and 77 (which is fair), but then STL is getting another 79 for no reason.

yes but if you look at it like this
I get a 79 for a 77 = +2
I get a 79 for an 83 = -4
So I am down 2 ratings. The first allows for me to make up for this loss in the future instead of right now.

BTW, I am also factoring in that Pacioretty produces well above his rating in the game.

yes but production has never been considered before. trades have always been based upon overalls. I dont know why this one would be different.

A 1st has always been worth about 4-5 ratings. A 4th or 5th 2ratings

Production isn't enough to reject a deal, but it can factor in when there's already grounds for rejection.
As it stands, a 1st is too much to cover a 2 overall difference (or getting a free 79 if you wanna look at it the way Pens first explained it).
